The World Reborn

Blizzard just released a new video trailer for Cataclysm, showcasing a lot of the new stuff we’ll be able to experience in the upcoming expansion. The video is a sorts of fly-through of new lands and dungeons. Instead of me describing it, I recommend you watch it below:

Six Years and Counting

Our little World of Warcraft is celebrating its sixth anniversary. Not long now, before it starts going to school and chasing after girls, and not that long ago it was still in diapers making smelly bombs when you least expected. In the meantime, if you log in the game you will get a nice letter from the dev team and an achievement. If I remember correctly we all received a white polar bear mini pet for the fifth anniversary and there were some rumors something similar might happen this year. This remains to be seen though.

Coolest New Quest Hub?

Since the Cataclysm, we have been playing very hard to enter as many quests as possible into our quests database. On that journey we come across some of the quests imbued with that good old Blizzard magic. Quests people talk about when they describe WoW. Our questing session took us to Felwood. It is not as changed as some of the other zones and everything looks familiar, yet there is new content everywhere you turn. A small quest hub, consisting of only 2 quest givers, Arcanist Delaris and Eridan Bluewind, can be found a bit east of Ruins of Constellas. The first quest you’ll be doing is given by Delaris and is called Do the Imp-Possible. Why is this so special? This quest starts a series of quests that, when combined, make up words of a song from an anime called Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. The song is called “Row Row Fight The Power” and it goes like this: Do the Imp-Possible, See the Invisible
ROW ROW Fight the Power
Touch the Untouchable, Break the Unbreakable
You can listen to the original song here:
As if this was not enough, after finishing this quest chain you get to do the quest Open Their Eyes. It involves scaring a bunch of Imps with a special item that generates mini rainbows! If you haven’t heard about the Double Rainbow MeMe, you must have been hiding under a rock. This is Blizzard’s little nod to the internet phenomena all with Imps yelling: “What does it mean”; and sobbing uncontrollably. Watch the original double rainbow video bellow.

The Shattering of Azeroth

The day has come and nothing will be the way it was for the past 6 years. The shattering has come and lands of Azeroth are forever changed. After a month of pre-cataclysm events patch 4.0.3a has been applied to the servers and once you log in all the familiar places will have a new look. I must admit it is spectacular. Instead of feeling in ruin the whole world feels like it has been upgraded and all the outdated , low detailed , yet oh so well known cities and landscapes now look like 2010. Complete leveling experience up to level 80 has been improved. 1-60 leveling range has been updated with new quests and land looks in accordance to the standards Wrath of the Lich King introduced. 70-80 leveling range has been sped up by about 25%. Not even a full day after the 4.0.3a patch has been applied, a hotfix patch has been released. For all those curious as to what the hotfix did, click on THIS link

Horde’s Guide to Pilgrim’s Bounty Festival

Pilgrim’s Bounty is a world event that lasts from November 21. to November 27. It coincides with the Thanksgiving Holiday in the United States and is all about cooking and feasting with your friends. It is a cook’s dream holiday and includes food fights, turkey hunting and easy cooking leveling up to 350 skill. The only down side to the whole event is the need to frequently travel in between capital towns. Important Note no. 1: There are Bountiful tables located near all capital cities that are involved in a number of achievements related to this event. Things you need to know about these tables:
  1. There are 5 types of chairs to sit in and each type is related to a different type of food
  2. Once you sit in the chair you get 2 new abilities in your skill bar: Pass food and Eat food
  3. Eating the same type of food will give you that food’s buff and there is an achievement for getting buffs from all 5 types of food
  4. You can pass food to players sitting next to you and this works as part of another achievement as well
Important Note no. 2: Pilgrim’s Bounty Daily quests award Pilgrim’s Hat, Pilgrim’s Robe, etc. There is an achievement called Turkey Lurkey and to do it as quickly as possible you should pick the Hat and one of the chests, and for the rest you should be choosing the Turkey Shooter, since that is the item needed to complete the achievement.

The patch that does nothing, but changes everything

4.0.3 Patch has hit the servers and it brings no changes Per Se. What it does do is pave the road for the world changing patch 4.0.3a. In the meantime we can enjoy fixed Blood Elf dance animation and flapping of wings of Drake mounts… The interesting fixes are introduction of “Lag Tolerance” option in the game options menu that can help with precision of spell timing. Also, for people with higher resolution monitors UI scale has been changed to 1:1 pixel to texel ratio, which will result in smaller UI for people with biog monitors. You can read the full patch notes after the jump

Patching WoW from 3.3.0 to 4.0.0

If you are like me and are returning to World of Warcraft after a prolonged absence you have noticed that patching your client to the lates version will take some serious download power. Blizzard’s torrent based downloader takes way too long. I tried finding a way to patch my old client to the latest version by other means and it did not go without trouble. Here’s how I did it. The biggest problem with the latest patches is that Blizzard completely changed the way the client gets patched and how we play the game. With the new Cataclysm launcher they have intorduced means of playing the game although you do not have the full 12GB+ client downloaded. Data will be downloaded in the background while you play. Just to enable this feature you have to first patch your client up to 4.0.0 version of the game and launcher. This involves grabbing ~5GB of data. 1. I went to http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_mirrors to try and find a site that hosts patch files that I can download while avoiding torrent downloads. I went to one of the sites listed in the “3.3.x → 4.0.1.12911 Parts 1-4 — Full (~4.9-5.3 GiB)” section. These sites hold all of the files that need to be downloaded. The files I ended up with at the end are:
  • WoW-3.3.0.10958-4.0.0.12911-EU-Stage-1
  • WoW-3.3.0.10958-4.0.0.12911-EU-Stage-2
  • WoW-3.3.0.10958-4.0.0.12911-EU-Stage-3
  • WoW-x.x.x.x-4.0.0.12911-Updater
2. What you should do next is change the names of these files to (if you do not see file extensions in you Windows explorer make sure you enable them by going to Tools -> Folder options -> View -> uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types”) WoW-3.3.0.10958-4.0.0.12911-EU-Stage-1.part WoW-3.3.0.10958-4.0.0.12911-EU-Stage-2.part WoW-3.3.0.10958-4.0.0.12911-EU-Stage-3.part 3. The next step is to start WoW-3.3.5.12340-x86-Win-enGB-BKGND-downloader that you can find in your World of Warcraft Updates directory (usually “C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Updates”) 4. The moment the downloader starts it will create 3 files in the Updates folder. These three files will have the same names as the ones you downloaded manually and renamed as per steps above. Cancel your download with the Blizzard downloader. 5. Copy the files you downloaded and renamed to C\…..:\World of Warcraft\Updates and replace the existing files. 6. Start WoW-3.3.5.12340-x86-Win-enGB-BKGND-downloader again and let it do its thing 7.Once the downloader is done you should start WoW-x.x.x.x-4.0.0.12911-Updater to finish the update. This should bring you a step closer to the current version of Warcraft. There is a lot of new stuff still to be downloaded but this is done by the Catalyst launcher and in the meantime you can play the game as if you have the full client.

Hello world!

Welcome to a brand new World of Warcraft fansite – WoW Life. Fansite you say; don’t we have enough of those already? Yes we do, but we wanted to try and give you something different or better than others. We love what all the other sites do for the WoW community, but we had some ideas that we wanted to present ourselves. There are guides that have not been written and walkthroughs that we want to share with you, and unlike some we don’t want to charge for them – just your regular FFA fansite. Who are we to be so bold and offer you advice? We are three friends that have been playing WoW since release (which we celebrated by an epic gaming party that lasted for 3 days non stop leveling. While one was sleeping other was playing and vice versa), and we are excited with the upcoming Cataclysm expansion so much that we started this site to aid you in your exploration of the new, shattered lands. Some of us have not played non stop for the past 6 years and like many of you feel lost in the reinvented game Blizzard is releasing with the expansion. We will try and share our exploration experiences with you as we go through content in form of our unique quest database with screenshot walkthroughs. We will also try to provide instance, event, quest chain guides and walkthroughs with screenshots and videos as often as possible. To top it all of we’ll try and keep up with the most important news from World of Warcraft.

Who we are

File Tricked into playing a druid so he can heal the rest of the group, and still be fun to play hybrid style, he turned to his heart’s true love – rogue – the first chance he got. Raiding his little rogue heart out through vanilla and the Burning Crusade he tried out this new super class Death Knight once Lich hit the shelves and never looked back. Being often the Main Tank and being regular in all of his guild’s raids he has vast knowledge and experience of all the toughest encounters in the game.
Lokesh Man of a thousand alts, hundreds of lvl 80s and gazillions of gold pieces, Lokesh is a true force of nature when it comes to playing WoW. With zealot like dedication to leveling he tears through content like a beast and has leveled so many time to top level that he does it faster than anyone else we know. At the same time he enjoys the economic aspect of the game and making WoW gold has become child’s play for him. I swear, the man makes gold while sleeping.
Mikro On and off WoW veteran that leveled his beloved Shaman Proudhoof to 60 among the first 100 players on his first realm, Shattered Hand (EU). After countless Molten Core raids he tried some priest leveling and never looked back. Helping kill Nefarian was the last 2 month effort he really participated in and Burning Crusade did not sit well with him. Wrath of the Lich King did make him come back to WoW and do some epicness, but why we really keep him around is because he can do PHP.
